Taman Ayun Temple



Taman Ayun Temple is located in the village of Mengwi, Badung Regency, about 18 km to the west of Denpasar. This temple is very beautiful, in accordance with its name, which means temple in a beautiful garden. In addition to beautiful, Taman Ayun Temple is also considered to have historical value, so that in 2002 the local government proposed to UNESCO that Balinese temple is included in the World Heritage List.
Pura Taman Ayun is a Mother (Paibon) for the kingdom of Mengwi. This temple was built by Mengwi King, I Gusti Agung Putu, in 1556 Saka (1634 AD). At first, I Gusti Agung Putu build a temple in the northern village of Mengwi to his ancestral shrine. The temple is called Genter Park. When Mengwi has developed into a major kingdom, I Gusti Agung Putu moved Genter Park eastward and expand the building. The temple has been expanded inaugurated as Taman Ayun on Tuesday POND-Medangsia fourth month in 1556 Saka. Until now, every Tuesday POND wuku pananggalan Medangsia by Saka, in this temple is held piodalan (ceremony) to celebrate the anniversary of the founding of the temple.

Historically, Taman Ayun was built by the king of Mengwi, I Gusti Agung Ngurah Made Agung in 1634 were used for the royal family of Mengwi. In the 17th century the kingdom of Mengwi kingdom is one of the eight other royal in Bali, namely Klungkung, Karangasem, Buleleng, Gianyar, Tabanan, Bangli, Jembrana, and Badung. But in its development, the kingdom was conquered by the kingdom of Mengwi Badung. At that time the park is often used as a performing arts and culture, and are often used as well as risking your place chicken (tajen). Taman Ayun with the arrangement of a traditional Balinese landscape surrounded by an artificial river, also planted with a variety of rare plant species typical of Bali. Taman Ayun temple also is an integral arrangement that blends with the environment surrounding the garden and pool.

Temple complex is divided into 3 different pages. Which is one higher than the other 3 symbolizes nature, namely; subconscious (bhur), the middle of nature (Bvah), and the nature of (Svah). Each page linked by the gate. The third page is a page that is considered the most sacred, because of the activities carried out there praying on this page and also some Meru and other sacred buildings located there. Every 210 days to be exact every Tuesday POND Medangsia, the whole community celebrates Mengwi piodalan for several days worshiping God with all manifestations. The first page is called with Jaba can be achieved only by passing through the only gate bridge and pond. Once inside there is a small monument to guard the entrance and to the right there is a spacious building (wantilan) where cockfighting is often held during the ceremony. In this page, there is also a memorial fountain that succumb to 9 cardinal directions.
